The Location

The Astino Monastery is a building of rare beauty, a small jewel set between the woods of Allegrezza and the hill of Benaglia. It was founded in 1107 by the Vallombrosani monks who, in the enchanting green valleys of Bergamo, found the perfect embodiment of an ideal physical and spiritual union between man and nature. It was completed in 1540, when the imposing south-west tower that still dominates the valley was built. The 2013 restoration returned it to its former glory, bringing to light some conventual frescoed rooms. Since summer 2020, the monastery hosts the summer location of ‘Cavour 1880’.

Trattoria al Brolo

Imagine a corner of paradise surrounded by greenery, where a monastery hides behind itself a small garden, refreshed by the large branches of trees and the valley that opens up beyond the border wall. This is the ‘Brolo of Astino’, in ancient times a vegetable garden that now lends its beauty to a trattoria (typical informal and inexpensive Italian restaurant) born from the desire to savour the tastes of traditional dishes in a convivial and joyful atmosphere that wants to revive the beauty and the friendly ambience of the old trattorias of Bergamo.
